Bunk Beds with Desk

Bunk Beds with Desk

One of the most convenient kids rooms beds, are bunk beds with desk, they are an all in one answer to cramped bedrooms. Bunk beds with desk are a unique design that allows the desk to fit perfectly within the bunk bed construction with many even incorporating a computer desk and a storage cabinet as well. They are fantastic space savers, integrating everything your son or daughter should need, a bed, a desk, and storage, not to mention it helps promote studying and doing home work, because they feel it’s their own private space. Bunk beds with desk also work wonderfully in a college environment, which are usually small, whether they are apartments or dorm rooms.
Some of the more important things to consider when searching for bunk beds with desk are the different types of drawer construction, and runner, track systems, sometimes called glides, nothing could be more annoying than having a desk, and you can’t open the drawer, or when it finally opens, it falls off the track. Below you’ll find some tips on draw construction and track systems.

Drawer Track and Glide Systems
Typically better quality bunk beds with desk feature drawer glides that are made out of wood. Wood tracks are considered superior to metal, but always make sure that wood runner is a good quality.

Wood Track Systems
As mentioned above wood track systems are preferred to metal in finer furniture. In larger size drawers look for a center glide to keep the drawer stable and aligned. In addition the drawer should have a stop keeping from being pulled out entirely, this is especially important if the bunk beds with desk are for younger children.

Metal Track Systems
Track systems, made of metal in some cases are better that wood. Wood glides if not properly installed make it very difficult to close or open a drawer. In addition wood glides have a tendency to warp, crack or split causing a real head ache. Wood tracks are more difficult to replace if something goes wrong with them, while metal glides, on the other hand, can be purchased at just about any home improvement store, such as Lowes or The Home Depot.

Drawer Structure
The way drawers in bunk beds with desk are constructed, is an excellent indicator of the entire bunk bed quality. What I mean by construction is how the drawer is joined together at the corners. The drawer that is dove tailed is the one that you should select. Dove tailing is were the corners of one side of the drawer is notched out and another side has tabs cut in that interlace with the notch giving the drawer strength.
There are two types of dove tailing English and French, the English being the most desirable because it has tabs that lock into notches like in a jigsaw puzzle and then glued, this type is found in higher quality furniture, while the French style is found in less expensive bunk beds with desk, has a grove cut into one side and the back is glued into the slot, this style reduces the space in the drawer and is not as sturdy as the English, but is better than no dovetail at all. No dove tail at all is similar in construction to what you would find in a standard kitchen cabinet drawer.
